A gag bit requires special cheek pieces (so-called gag straps) with a ring at the lower end where the rein is attached. This bit is suitable for horses that easily raise their heads and lower their backs. The bit creates pressure on the neck and helps the rider to keep the head down a bit so that the contact becomes better. It can advantageously be used with two reins where one is attached to the gag strap (cheek piece) and the other to the bit ring.
